Since 2014, Les Siestes has participated in the Shape platform, which in 2022 becomes SHAPE+, a program supported by Creative Europe, which aims to support the careers of artists in the field of innovative music and arts. This new stage of the SHAPE platform will be marked by an emphasis on residencies and, where possible, greener forms of travel.

The European Union-funded SHAPE+ platform for innovative music and audiovisual art is announcing its 2024/2025 list of artists. The artist selection places a number of sound artists alongside musical acts that range from club music and forward-thinking media art to experiments with traditional music and free improvisation. The third year of SHAPE+ will continue its focus on collaborative residencies and one-off performances simultaneously, with such updates as three new member festivals and a syndicated network of partner radio stations that spans 13 countries.

Shape+ artists have been nominated for 24/25!

SHAPE+ platform for innovative music and audiovisual art, co-funded by the European Union, announces an open call specifically for interns from Ukraine, who will be invited to spend two months with participating festivals of the project, and help in their preparation. Deadline: June 21, 2024.
Each of the 15 festivals that are currently part of the platform will welcome interns and involve them in the preparation process of their event. The internship period is 2 months, with up to 40 hours of work per week. Travel, accommodation and living costs will be provided.
Main requirements are a keen interest in adventurous music and art, previous experience in the cultural field, excellent English, Ukranian citizenship and a biometric passport. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
All internships resulting from this open call will take place mid 2024 to early 2025, as SHAPE+ festivals, taking place in 15 European cities, happen on different dates throughout the year.
Each intern’s profile and each festival’s needs will be slightly different, but duties of the internship may most likely include: communicating with artists and their management, support with production plans and scheduling, planning logistics, paperwork, and creating content for promotion.
There will be a second open call for internships for the period of March – July 2025. It will be announced separately.

SHAPE+ platform for innovative music and audiovisual art, co-funded by the European Union, announces two collaborative showcases outside of the EU: Serbia’s Polja Festival at the end of June, and the şien Festival in Kazakhstan in July.

Polja Festival (28. – 30. 6. 2024)

Polja is a non-profit, sustainable festival and “music colony”, founded in the spirit of collective
action. It is organized by a community of artists, cultural activists, and enthusiasts gathered
around the Belgrade collective Dis-patch and their collaborators, who have collectively
organized dozens of cultural events both domestically and internationally.
This year’s Polja festival will take place from June 28th to 30th, showcasing artists of traditional
and modern folklore as well as experimental music to both local and international audiences. The
festival aims to create a perfect balance between tradition and modernity within a unique rural
and natural setting. Additionally, Polja will feature an educational component, exploring the
connections between folklore and modern musical forms and their evolution in the digital age. A
key priority of the platform is to promote and develop sustainable ideas for artistic and touristic
practices in rural areas, while also engaging local youth in artistic activities.

şien Festival (4. – 7. 7. 2024)

şien is a festival created by ZVUK team – ZVUK is a collective from Central Asia, working on independent, experimental and electronic music projects via events and releases. They are based in Almaty.
This will be the very first edition of şien festival, and the ZVUK team describe it thus:
“A lot of interesting artists have recently emerged in Kazakhstan, both in electronic and experimental music and in the field of art and media. However, that scene is very fragmented. We want to create a festival that will bring the scene together creating interesting future collaborations. Having this festival will help to bring our independent music and art scene forward. It will also be a breath of fresh air in conservative Kazakhstan. Our aim and goal is to build a place which is multicultural, open for everyone, regardless of background, sexual orientation, gender, curious about others, inventive while sharing ideas in different languages: music, art, technology, dance and performance.”
